* Might be the wife of the John Wiley Holt 1846 - 1863 who is interred in the Athens City Cemetery. John W. may be a Civil War Casualty and is interred between his mother & father John D. & Mary Jane Russell Holt.
** These monuments consist of concrete molded in the era when those were popular between 1890 - 1910. They at the time much less expensive but now we know they break up easily.

Note: In Eulalia Welldens's 'Death Notices From Limestone County Alabama Newspapers' there appears the following: 'George Evans was born April 4, 1802 in Sussex Co., Virginia, married Mill Edner Atkinson in Southampton
Co., Virginia in 1835, emigrated to Alabama, living near Mooresville until 1854, and then moved to 2 & 1/4 miles northeast of Athens, where he lived until his death on Jan. 2, 1878. He was buried in the family cemetery near
his residence.' Also, the Athens Democrat dated Feb. 9, 1888 states 'Mrs. Gus Evans was buried last Friday in the family burying ground on the late George Evans farm.' As found published in the Limestone Co Cemeteries book by Linda H. Smith.

This Cemetery presentation is based on the photography of C. Wayne Austin on 13 Oct 2017. Uploaded here by C. Wayne Austin on 15 Oct 2017.
