1838, in Limestone Co. Bellemina, Alabama, 40th Tenn. Regiment Infantry Co. E,
Enlistment date 1861 Memphis, Tn. 1st Lieutenant; Statement by Porter Bibb as
follows: "Enlisted 1861 at Memphis Tennessee and continued until just
before being mustered in, I became Captain of this Co. by resignation of Captain
Whitfield and remained Captain until the term of service expired having enlisted
for 12 months." - Statement by Porter Bibb as follows:
"Reenlisted at Vicksburg, Mississippi and continued until close of the war
when I was given a parole by U.S. Commandant of the Post Demopolis, Ala. in Jan
1865. Captain Whitfield and myself raised a Company in Limestone Co., Ala. and
when we offered our services in our state were informed that Alabama Infantry
was full so we had to hunt around and succeed in being entered into a Tennessee
Regiment for 12 months. Original papers all destroyed by Fire which burned by
residence and contents in 1868." Bellmina, Alabama. Brigade of General
