Reece Eugene"Gene" Steele, age 92 of Leighton, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012. Visitation will be Friday, 11-12:30 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia. His graveside service will follow at 1:30 in Old Brick Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic rites. Bill Bedsole is officiating. 
Gene was born in Clifton, Tennessee, but was a lifelong resident of the Shoals area. He graduated from Sheffield High School and attended North Alabama Teachers College, now UNA. He went to work for TVA as a Public Safety Officer on his twentieth birthday and retired on his sixty-fifth birthday. He served honorably in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He was a member of Sheffield First United Methodist Church and Sheffield Lodge of F & A Masons. 
Gene passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife Linda at his side. He is survived by Linda, son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Jackie Steele of Petersburg, TN; granddaughters, Elizabeth "Izzie" Steele of Huntsville and Susan Steele of Auburn. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and VanDon Steele, wife, Nell G. Steele and infant daughter, Susan Ellen Steele. 
Pallbearers are Grant Steele, Sean Hennigan, Chip Gaiser, Stan Hale, Greg Hennigan, Jason Kerby, Jeff Hovater and Dalton Kerby. 
Honorary Pallbearers are Stuart Hennigan, Bill Gober, George Blair, Wade Patterson and Calvin Berry.
