Howard Taft Ray, 67, Muscle Shoals, Ala., died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011.
Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 19, from 5-7, at Colbert Memorial Chapel. Funeral services to begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, in the chapel, with burial to follow at Old Brick Cemetery. Brother Jack Coons officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Wilson and Dora Mae Lee; two brothers, Virgil Ray (Roxie), of Chicago, and Rufus Ray (Lorine), of Conyers, Ga.; and three sisters, Mammie West (Dick), of Etheridge, Tenn., Effie Wade (George), of Muscle Shoals, and Ruby Vickers, of Waterloo, Ala.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Ray; son, Randall Ray (Joanna); stepdaughter, Symantha Wilbanks, and adopted daughter, Susan Gunnison; brother, J.W. Ray (Linda) of Illinois; and sister, Jesse Ray (James), of Tennessee; four stepgrandchildren, Nathaniel Borden, Brianna Wilbanks, Ashlynn Wilbanks and Dekota Wilbanks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Hal Vickers, Michael McDonald, Henry Vickers "Sunny", Tim Byrd, Tim Hymans and Rufus Ray. Honorary bearers are Harold Simmons and Nathaniel Borden.
Mr. Ray was a loyal employee for 30-plus years at Muscle Shoals Marine Service.
