This church was formed when a group of Presbyterians worshipping in the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church aka Old Brick Presbyterian Church broke off and started meeting down the road here not 500 yards west of the original church. They also formed their own graveyard. It was all part of a national movement to form the Cumberland Presbyterian Church prior to 1900. Earliest marked grave today is Josephine "Josie" Davidson Kerby, 1870 - 1916, although her stone was set after about 1960.
